INTRODUCING ‘MANDALA CLUB NISEKO’: IN RESIDENCE
INTRODUCING ‘MANDALA CLUB NISEKO’: IN RESIDENCE
Mandala Group announces four-month Mandala Club pop up in Niseko this 2023/24 winter season; fabulous food, après ski fun to get excited about, and world class collaborators at every turn.
Masterchef Australia star GEORGE CALOMBARIS and JAY KHAN of COA, Asia’s No.1 Best Bar 2023 lead unprecedented roster of culinary, cocktail and music talent for the four-month winter residency.
NOVEMBER 2023, SINGAPORE: Mandala Club, Asia Pacific’s most dynamic private membership club community, is taking residence in Niseko this season; representing an unprecedented fixture on the Niseko scene. In partnership with YTL Hotels, the two-storey ski-in ski-out clubhouse will be nestled conveniently in the heart of Niseko Village, opening its doors from early December to Niseko’s most discerning visitors and residents alike.
Famed for its rich cultural calendar, chef residencies and music programming, Mandala Club will offer a truly unique dimension to this year’s Niseko experience for its existing membership community, as well as those fortunate enough to secure a table at https://mandala.club/niseko/.
On the club’s upper floor, POPIS, the namesake of Mandala Club’s flagship restaurant in Singapore, will offer elevated chalet classics lunch, après and dinner experiences daily throughout the season celebrating the plenitude of local produce, punctuated by visiting chefs offering culinary collaborations and the club’s iconic ‘Cultural Calendar’ of event programming. Kids are welcome in POPI’s where a dedicated menu offers healthy hearty food for ‘mini members’. POPIS is also home to Mandala’s ‘Après Every Day’ – great people, great music, sabred Champagne and magnums of rosé make Mandala Club the place to be at the bottom of the final day’s run, as the sun sets on Mount Annupuri.
Downstairs, the SNOW PARLOUR will host musical talent against a backdrop of Japanese-inspired cocktails and spirits. We’ll crank the volume, set the disco balls spinning, and bring on the medicinal dose of good times long into the evening.
At the helm of Mandala Club Niseko is ELLIOT FABER. Sake Samurai, famed restaurateur, world leading authority on all things sake, and a published author on the subject, Elliot will bring a unique experience, not to mention killer sake offering featuring weekly visits and tastings from Japan’s most iconic and notable breweries, to Mandala Club Niseko.
At the pass, Malaysian-Australian ESCA KHOO (@foodtureproof) leads the culinary offering. A protégé René Redzepi, Khoo’s energy and enthusiasm is set to permeate the Club’s culinary offering throughout the season in POPIs, which will offer lunch, après and dinner experiences daily and for the whole family throughout the season celebrating the plenitude of local produce. Chef Khoo is supported by Mandala Group’s culinary Director and Head of Japanese cuisine, REUBEN DAVIS.
Mandala’s Music Director JOSHUA PILLAI, long-time friend of the Club CANDICE B and friends take control of the decks with an open format music policy, culminating in weekly ‘SNOW PARLOUR SESSIONS’ every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night downstairs in the Club’s lounge, where we crank the volume, set the disco balls spinning, and bring on the medicinal dose of good times.
Punctuating Mandala Club Niseko’s unique offering, a season-long roster of world class chef and bartender pop ups further fuels its ‘Cultural Calendar’ of events programming:

Setsu Niseko: World's Best New Ski Hotel 2023
We are delighted to announce that Setsu Niseko has been awarded the prestigious title of the “World’s Best New Ski Hotel” at the World Ski Awards 2023. This remarkable achievement is a testament to our commitment to providing memorable holiday experiences all year round to our loyal guests.
The results announced by the World Ski Awards on 13 November 2023 recognises excellence in ski tourism. Endorsed globally by the ski industry and international media, World Ski Awards now in its 11th year, has become the most prestigious annual honours programme in the field of ski tourism. Each year, hundreds of thousands of ski industry professionals, tourists, and skiers from around the world participate by voting for their favourite venues and brands. Votes were cast online from 26 June through to 13 October 2023 for a range of categories, including best resorts, hotels, chalets, and tour operators.
Expressing his delight over the award, Simon Cheong, Founder and Chairman of SC Global Developments, the visionary behind the development of the property, remarked, “This tremendous achievement fills us with immense pride and was only made possible by the dedication of the SC Global family. A passion for excellence is ingrained in our DNA and to receive this global recognition is a testament to the hard work of the team. This award is wonderful news not just for the hotel, but for Niseko tourism at large, shining a spotlight on one of the finest ski destinations in the world.” Hotel Manager Michiko Tamoto added “We are all incredibly honoured to receive this prestigious award and we would like to thank the industry, our guests, and the local community for their recognition and support. Your vote is a fitting tribute to the team’s dedication to providing an outstanding experience for our guests and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Setsu Niseko this winter season.”
This isn’t the first time Setsu Niseko has garnered attention in the awards circuit. In June this year, the hotel claimed the impressive position of top three finalist in the acclaimed ‘Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2023’, solidifying its stature as a premier destination in Japan’s Beach and Upcountry Hotel category. More recently Setsu Niseko was conferred the IALD Award of Merit at the 40th IALD International Lighting Design Awards. In Japan, the development has been recognised with multiple design awards including Kukan Design Award 2023, Japan Interior Design (JID) Award 2023, and JIPA’s Interior Planning Award 2023.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming you to Setsu Niseko. The North Face Presents: DESCENDANCE
The North Face Presents: DESCENDANCE
Dennis Ranalter is one of the world’s most respected freeride skiers, his playful style and technical ability earning him a wide fan base and the widely used moniker: D-RAN.
Yet away from a name that showcases his self-assurance on the steep slopes of Austria, Dennis’s struggles with identity run deep. At its heart, the question of race and what it means to be black in a sport that remains predominantly and conspicuously white.
Descendance is Dennis’s story, a personal journey of self-exploration that examines his relationship with his own skin colour, with those closest to him and all those who share his love of skiing.
It’s a journey that takes him from his home valley in Austria to Accra, the capital of Ghana, shining a light on the power of family along the way.

Niseko Kyo brings a true ski-in ski-out hotel experience this season
New luxury ski hotel Niseko Kyo hosted its official ribbon cutting and opening ceremony on Friday 20th of October ahead of the launch for guests on November 30th. The ceremony was attended by Kutchan Town’s Mayor Kazushi Monji, owner Datuk Seri Robert Tan and representatives of architect H2 Planning and builder Iwata Chizaki.
Niseko Kyo offers 22 keys in total from the 1st to 5th floors with the 6 Bedroom Penthouse on the 6th. The ski access and concierge are located on the B2 floor along with the restaurant. “At the opening Datuk Seri Robert Tan spoke with passion about wanting to create a true ski-in and out experience” said Niseko Alpine Development’s Marketing Manager Amon Bradshaw, “where parents don’t have to carry kids ski gear long distances to get home. You can really feel that vision when you see the ski access”.

The luxury hotel will be home to Shirakaba by Naniwatei, led by executive chef Koji Murai. The restaurant will offer up to 12-course options featuring a high-end dining experience made with local seafood and produce.
During his opening speech Datuk Seri Robert Tan thanked the local Kutchan town office and Mayor Kazushi Monji for their support for a project and expressed his love for Niseko, especially the summer, and excitement for the future.
Niseko Kyo opens November 30th. With direct ski in ski out access, availability for early New Year, Chinese New Year and spring-skiing is expected to sell-out quickly once Niseko’s winter travellers return.
