Job Summary:
We are looking for a reliable, skilled and customer-focused Retail & Rental Assistant to join our team for the 2024/25 winter season. In this role, you will be responsible for providing outstanding customer service, selling winter sport accessories, setting up and managing rentals, and maintaining an organized store environment. The position requires someone with a passion for winter sports, excellent communication skills, and a valid work visa for Japan.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service: Greet customers and assist them with their inquiries, and provide expert advice on winter sports gear and accessories.
• Retail Sales: Sell ski and snowboard accessories, clothing, and equipment, ensuring that customers have the products they need for their time on the slopes.
• Rental Setup: Assist customers with premium ski and snowboard rentals, including sizing, fitting, and ensuring they have the correct equipment for their skill level.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure rental equipment is in good condition by performing basic checks, cleaning, and organizing the gear.
• POS Transactions: Handle cash and card payments accurately, using the point-of-sale system.
• Stock Management: Assist with inventory management, restocking items, and ensuring products are displayed neatly and attractively.
• Store and Equipment Maintenance: Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment, ensuring the rental area is well-kept and equipment is ready for use.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth daily operations and provide the best customer experience.
• Ad-hoc Duties: Assist with opening and closing procedures, handling stock deliveries, and any other tasks as needed.

Requirements:

• Valid Work Visa for Japan 
• Strong customer service skills and a friendly, professional attitude.
• Experience with winter sports (skiing/snowboarding) and a willingness to learn about products and equipment.
• Good communication skills in English (Japanese skills are an advantage but not required).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and handle busy periods.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and peak season hours, including early mornings and evenings.
• Previous retail or rental experience is a plus but not necessarily required.
• A proactive attitude, good team player, and willingness to assist wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Boot Customization: Perform boot fitting, shell modifications, footbed customization, and liner modifications to ensure optimal comfort and performance for each customer.
• Boot Repairs: Carry out a range of boot repairs, including sole replacements, buckle adjustments, liner repairs, and general maintenance.
• Technical Support: Provide expert advice and guidance to customers regarding boot care, fitting, and adjustments to enhance their skiing/snowboarding experience.
• Workshop Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
• Customer Service: Interact with customers to understand their needs, take measurements, and suggest appropriate modifications or repairs based on their requirements.

Requirements:

• Valid Work Visa for Japan for the duration of the seasonal position.
• Proven experience in ski and snowboard boot fitting, customization, and repair (at least 1-2 seasons of relevant experience is preferred).
• Strong technical knowledge of boot design, fitting processes, and boot repair techniques.
• Ability to work with specialized tools and equipment in a professional workshop environment.
• Attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality, precise work under pressure.
• Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers.

Bi-lingual Assistant at Imagine (Adventure Company) – Year-round, long term position

This role combines office work, remote work and outdoor activity work in Hokkaido. You will be assisting an established entrepreneur to continue to grow and manage adventure companies around Asia. Your main manager will be Pete Tupper, the founder of the Imagine brand, which does business in the outdoor education and travel industries in Hokkaido, Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam etc.

You will play important parts in the development of the business while making the day-to-day management more efficient and effective.

Responsibilities

• Communication with customers
• Process sign-up forms, invoices, payments, receipts, records
• Booking transport, hotels, restaurants and rentals for activities
• Translations and Japanese language emails, marketing text, etc.

• Shopping for equipment
• Organizing and maintaining equipment storage

• Native or near-native Japanese (spoken and written, business level)

• 2-8 years work experience in similar roles

• Already living in Hokkaido (the closer to Kimobetsu, the better)
• Very efficient at using a variety of computer software
• Have own laptop

• Good at adapting between office, remote work and outdoor work
• Able to think independently to find ways to get things done

Arrangements

Main place of work is currently in Kimobetsu (25 mins from Kutchan).

Work is sometimes in the office, sometimes remote (from home), sometimes outdoors on activities, and sometimes driving around to do tasks. Sometimes you may also work in another office in Niseko. It varies every week.

Approx 40 hours per week

1 year contract with expectation to extend to long term
