Youtube Video "Arisa's Life in Hokkaido" × Niseko

Niseko Tourism worked together with TREASURE IN STOMACH.Co (Sapporo, CEO: Arisa Shibata), with the aim of broadcasting and promoting the charms of Niseko.

The video showcases the agricultural products and other specialty goods from Niseko area in a Youtube channel called 『愛里沙の北海道暮らし』(Arisa’s Life in Hokkaido).

Vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free recipes are popular amongst foreigners who visit/live in the Niseko area. The original vegetarian/gluten-free recipe that uses Niseko products, was devised to suit the area’s characteristics.

■Youtube Video Released on July 17th (Fri)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqczZtnt5kE

Using Niskeo’s products, the video showcases 3 different recipes - “Gluten-Free Cake Sale”,  “Vegetable Soup” and “Ginger Pudding”.

・Gluten-Free Cake Sale

Ingredients include potatoes and zucchinis from Niseko town and the cheese from Takahashi dairy farm.

・Turnip and Sasage Soup

It is a very simply seasoned soup that kids and elders can also enjoy. The sole seasoning is salt, as the vegetables from Niseko provides a naturally rich and delicious taste.

・Ginger Pudding

Ingredients are ginger syrup (fragmented ginger), milk, and beet sugar.

Gelatin is not used because it hardens with the ginger syrup’s enzyme and milk’s casein.

The ginger pudding is a traditional dessert from Hong Kong, so Niseko visitors/residents from Hong Kong can make this dessert using Niseko’s local products.

■ Niseko Products

・Gynger syrup: Hand made by the owner/chef of 杏ダイニング

Spirit of the Mountain

The Spirit of the Mountain Welcomes Visitors back to Niseko

Spirit of the Mountain

Hokkaido’s most famous resort area, Niseko, is releasing a new campaign titled “The Spirit of the Mountain” to showcase the region and reinvigorate tourism. Niseko Tourism is spearheading the project with the goal of welcoming visitors back to the four-seasons resort.

For the first time, the video reveals to the world “The Spirit of the Mountain (山の気魂, Yama no kikon)” – the unique vibrance that permeates Niseko, is embodied in its people, and is responsible for making Niseko Japan’s most internationally loved resort.

Featuring the faces of dozens of the region’s most well known and loved personalities – including the mayors of the three towns that encompass the region – this new video illustrates the depth of the spirit that resonates through Niseko’s seasons.

Niseko Tourism Marketing Director Acme Wu says “The Spirit of the Mountain” encompasses the diversity of Niseko. “The Spirit of the Mountain explains why so many people from all over the world have gravitated to and fallen in love with Niseko,” Ms Wu said. “It’s something that everyone shares; it’s the reason people come to visit and it’s the reason people choose to live here. We want visitors from all over Japan – and eventually all over the world – to come to Niseko and feel the Spirit of the Mountain for themselves”.

Behind the scenes - filming

The mayors from each of the three towns that make up the Niseko area are pleased that the region’s best attributes are illustrated through this project.

“The grandeur of Niseko’s four-seasons is showcased so clearly, which is wonderful to see.” - Kenya Katayama, Niseko Town Mayor.

“It’s great that Niseko’s most important elements, including its natural environment, have been captured and shown so succinctly. It’s a very important time to send such a reassuring message.” - Kazushi Monji, Kutchan Town Mayor.

“I am pleased to share our wonderful natural environment through this message, and I’m looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Niseko once the coronavirus situation settles.” - Hideyuki Kon, Rankoshi Town Mayor.

Mayor of Kutchan

Video Director Aaron Jamieson was very passionate about the project. “The idea of this project resonated so strongly with me that I wanted to volunteer my time to direct the filming and make sure we made something that spoke from the heart of all Niseko residents”.

Niseko’s winter started winding down back in March, about a month earlier than usual, as COVID-19 concerns impacted international travel.

The resort saw very few cases of the virus, and following a light lockdown over April and May, the island of Hokkaido is fundamentally back to business as usual.

Domestic tourists are expected to visit over the popular summer period to experience the cooler northern temperatures, famous fresh produce, and outdoor activities, while international tourism will be limited due to border restrictions.

Among the seven towns and villages around Mt. Yotei under the jurisdiction of the Shiribeshi branch office, only Rankoshi-cho has a beautiful coastline (about 4 Km).

The town aims to promote the region by making the most out of the sea. "Shellfish Museum of Rankoshi" was built as one of the "Seaside Park Minato Concept" that promotes a new relationship with the sea and marine ecosystem.

Opened in 1991, this is a shellfish museum that displays fossil shells such as marine and land snails living worldwide and ammonites in Hokkaido.

The museum is open everyday in July and August. Please check HERE for more details and further schedules of the museum.
