Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

Niseko is made up of not only the large brand names but also with many small businesses. NPB as DMO is the only cross juridical organization to market this area as the whole. I would like to contribute in improving NPB as the place to go to find anything about Niseko and promote not only JAPOW but nature, all businesses and farming. My experience as a tourist and now as a local as well as being bilingual should offer some balanced view to the organization.

Please share your vision for Niseko

Niseko should become the leader of Japan’s international destinations, competing with other famous vacation locations. Accommodations, restaurants and shops are very international but at the same time offering a very Japanese local flavor to guests’ experiences. Nature and natural foods offers are exceptional level that guests want to come back every year.

Ioanna Morelli

Little Door LLC

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

With the great momentum over the past 2 years, I hope to continue to contribute to the shaping of healthy all year round tourism, while improving the connection between the local community, our members, and visitors.

Please share your vision for Niseko

Niseko can aspire to be a model for other resorts in Japan, showcasing how to balance the demands of international tourism with the preservation of local culture and the environment. By sharing best practices, collaborating with industry stakeholders, and actively participating in regional and national discussions, Niseko can aim to inspire a shift towards sustainable tourism across Japan. I envision a future where Niseko stands as a beacon for sustainable tourism, attracting visitors from around the world while nurturing a thriving local international community. By demonstrating the possibilities of responsible development and cultural integration, Niseko aspires to be a blueprint for the evolution of resorts throughout Japan and beyond.

Kristian Lund

Niseko Media KK

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

One of my core goals is to help build tourism in Niseko’s other seasons. The imbalance in visitor numbers between seasons causes a lot of disruption to the towns in winter, and doesn’t allow for consistent, year-round business and employment opportunities. Having more visitors in the other seasons will make year-round business, employment and investment more viable. All of this will help government make sustainable long-term plans for infrastructure, transport and management of the town.

Please share your vision for Niseko

There is no resort area in Japan attracting as much international attention and investment as Niseko. Niseko has an opportunity nowhere else in Japan has – to become one of the world’s most famous resorts. It could become as well known as Whistler, Aspen or Courchevel. This will bring more economic, infrastructure and lifestyle benefits to local towns and residents. As a director of Niseko Tourism I want to help guide the tourism promotion and management of Niseko to help growth be sustainable and bring benefits to the region.

Ben Kerr

Niseko Real Estate

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

Expanding Niseko’s summer season patronage to both domestic and international markets.

Please share your vision for Niseko

A year-round destination where the tourism sector works in harmony with local business and community.

Tomomi Nishimura

RHYTHM&BEATS

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

I want to turn Niseko into a tourist destination bustling with visitors throughout the year. Currently, the revenue of the Hirafu business is concentrated in the winter months from December to February, with the remaining nine months accounting for only about 10% to 20% of the total revenue. While winter inbound tourism continues to grow, the business aims to increase annual employment and maintain stable employment. However, during the off-peak season, income drops significantly, and expenses during the summer increase substantially. In global ski resorts, not only winter but also summer activities are abundant, supporting tourism throughout the year, ensuring stable revenue and employment for the business. It is essential to work towards revitalizing Niseko’s summer business before the Shinkansen connects to Kutchan. If United Niseko resorts collaborate on summer activities, promoting activities at each resort, it is believed that Niseko’s overall attraction can be expected to grow, leading to the growth of the town’s businesses.

Please share your vision for Niseko

Niseko is currently a globally renowned resort where enthusiasts can enjoy powder snow. Visitors from around the world come to experience its snow. Despite being in Japan, Niseko stands out as a unique tourist destination with international-class accommodation and facilities that cater to inbound tourists. These offerings play a key role in attracting tourists. Moreover, in recent years, amid snow shortages in various countries, there is a considerable number of tourists who expect guaranteed snow in Niseko. Contrary to the winter demand, the summer image of Niseko is not as prominently highlighted. Despite its abundant natural beauty and the potential for various activities during the summer, the overshadowing perception of Niseko in winter has led to a situation where the summer aspect of Niseko is nearly non-existent.

Niseko Management Service

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

As the current Director of the Niseko Promotion Board (NPB), I have witnessed significant strides made by the core NPB team and the current board over the past two years, establishing the NPB as the foremost promotion board for inbound tourism in the region. With the largest member base since inception, we are confidently moving in a positive direction. However, I recognize the importance of further enhancing our efforts, particularly in the promotion of Niseko as a summer destination to our large international audience. This year, I am committed to showcasing the charms and advantages of a Niseko summer vacation, while supporting events aimed at attracting visitors and promoting the destination.

Please share your vision for Niseko

To continue the positive work that has been undertaken in the past. The NPB is uniquely positioned in the promotion of Niseko to a large international and domestic audience and so we have to continue working on how we communicate this message, especially for non-winter months and how we interact with our customer base both prior, during and after their Niseko stay. There is lots of potential for Niseko all year round and I want to help share this with all.

Lorencia Tjhia

Muwa Niseko

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

When we started the project, our main goal kept changing as things progressed. We often chose the easier way without remembering why we started – to make guests happy. Let’s go back and remember what makes NPB special by looking at its history.

Please share your vision for Niseko

I came to Niseko in 2015 for a short job, but I ended up staying and got a permanent residence visa. Now, I want to inspire more people to stay, work, and create a safe community here by giving them opportunities. Niseko is a great place with lots of chances.

Daisuke Uchida

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

I aspire to foster a positive environment for both the community and businesses, drawing from the perspective of the F&B industry.

Please share your vision for Niseko

The Niseko area is a unique locale experiencing rapid growth as a ski resort and international community. In such a dynamic environment, tensions can emerge between the ‘community’ and the ‘business side,’ leading to imbalanced growth. As both a citizen representing the community and a restaurant manager representing the business side, I aspire to foster a balanced climate that benefits both side equally.

Uchida Tatsuya

Tokyu Resort & Stay

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

As a ski operator, we will cooperate with tourism operators in the Niseko area for further global development, with a focus on quality improvement as a resort.

Please share your vision for Niseko

As a world-class resort, we should aim to attract all-season visitors, promote employment, and revitalize the region by taking a leadership role in the market not only for Niseko but also for the entire Shiribeshi region, and by promoting Niseko as the center of tourism.

Takanori Kikui

Niseko Annupuri Ski Resort, Hokkaido Chuo Bus Co., Ltd.

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

With the aim of making the Niseko area a year-round resort, we will work together with NPB members, local government and tourism organizations, and the public and private sectors to develop the Niseko area. At the same time, we will promote proactive efforts to resolve various issues the Niseko area is facing.

Please share your vision for Niseko

To grow into the world’s leading sustainable, one-of-a-kind year-round resort by addressing issues in the Niseko region in collaboration with visitors and local residents.

Panch Ratnavale

Niseko Village KK

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

To make Niseko an All Season destination with a strong focus on Summer to develop and grow our markets to emulate our business channels in Winter. In order to do this, the business and local community have to work cohesively with external organisations to design new products/ USPs that will help grow this market.

Please share your vision for Niseko

The vision is to make Niseko an All season destination so that it can attract talent and offer employment all year. This will be the basis to grow a thriving population that will contribute to improving the lifestyle and raising the bar in Tourism for Niseko.

Kentaro Hoshi

Nihon Harmony Resort Co., Ltd.

Please share one of your goals if you were one of the new NPB Directors

I hope to use my experience in the design and marketing field to help promote the Niseko area. In order to establish a strong Niseko brand, I would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity to create an external look and feel for the area, including the Shinkansen station name and unified regional branding, and help Niseko develop into a world-class resort destination in both name and reality.

Please share your vision for Niseko

The extension of the Shinkansen from Sapporo to Kutchan will greatly change the flow of people to and from the region. However, it does not appear that individual stakeholders and local governments are thinking about the big picture and cooperating with each other. As we approach the opportunity for large-scale renewal of transportation infrastructure and other facilities, we can expect NPB to play a role in forecasting the future of the region and formulating measures from a larger perspective as a DMO that bridges the boundaries of towns and villages.
