According to the Hokkaido Bureau of Telecommunications, the operation of foreign-standard radio devices, such as UHF CB(Australia), Public Channels in 409 MHz or Short Range Portable Radios(China and Hong Kong), PRS(New Zealand), FRS(US and Taiwan), etc., is strongly prohibited in Japan. It may cause harmful interference to other radio services and violate the Radio Law. The penalties can be up to 1 year imprisonment or fines up to ¥1 million.

If you need radio comunication, please use Japanese standard radio device affixed the Technical Conformity Mark. You can find the device online or at the electronic stores in Kutchan town, i.e. K’s Denki & Yamada Denki. You can also use mobile phone roaming service and Japanese telecommunication carriers’ SIM card.
